Three Government departments have teamed up to undertake a community outreach program to trace eligible former mineworkers in the Freestate.
The event was hosted in Welkom over two days and was a collaboration between the departments of Health, Minerals Resources and Energy as well as Employment and Labour.
This initiative seeks to assist mineworkers who lodged claims and were awarded compensation but have not yet claimed it. The claims included payouts for pension and provident funds or contracted occupational health diseases and silicosis.
The outreach programme aimed to raise awareness, provide information, and offer support to help these individuals access the compensation they are owed. The drive is significant in addressing the issue of unclaimed compensation and ensuring that eligible former mineworkers receive their rightful benefits.
