What is the Unpaid Benefit Campaign?
The Unpaid Benefit Campaign (UBC) is an unaffiliated community organisation. This organisation is supported by Open Secrets, a donor-funded entity which has produced numerous articles and research report criticising the financial sector for the lack of enthusiasm in dealing with the unclaimed benefits problem.
The UBC is often promoting action and raising awareness to the difficulties being faced by beneficiaries.
In 2018 protestors joined the Unpaid Benefit Campaign (UBC)in marching on Alexander Forbes with six boxes of claim applications which had yet to be paid. The UBC gave the fund 14 days to revert with feedback on these open unpaid claims.
The demonstrators carrying placards who marched to the administrator’s head office were from pension funds including Mittal, Telkom and the Global Pension Fund.
In December 2021, the UBC joined was party to an application being brought before the Gauteng High Court – the application asked the court to ensure that clear steps are taken towards remedying the unlawful cancellation of pension funds.
